Birth Of The Cool

I must admit I haven't been able to follow the NFL as much as I used to (way back in the 80's), but I generally manage to catch the Superbowl each year. It used to be a Big Event for me, especially when friends came around for burgers and beer simply to spend an evening stressing the first syllable of 'defence', but nowadays it's getting harder and harder to give the night the full pseudo-yank treatment.

The idea of making it up till 4 or 5 am is actually frightening nowadays, especially as Abigail seems to enjoy waking at ten past six every morning. Even two years ago, before she came on the scene, I only got to see the fantastic game between Pittsburgh and Arizona because the snow was coming down so hard I wouldn't be able to get to work the next morning anyway.

In fact I pretty much missed the entire MLB season last year too, what with being in bed before ten pretty much every night and up before six each morning. But tonight is different. Tonight may well be the last night where I have any choice over getting no sleep whatsoever, as minirolpol #2 will be joining us on Tuesday whether we're ready or not. Sleep will be a thing of the past.

So I have my (alcohol-free) beer in the fridge, my (low-fat) snacks in the cupboard, ready for a night of glorious self-pleasurement. It's as good as it gets when you live in a time of un-postponeable consequences!
